Snapchat on an iPhoneSnapchat is one of the newer social media platforms with the youngest following. How can your brand leverage this soapbox? Let us explain an affordable way to use Snapchat to promote your business.

64% of Snapchat users are 18-24, however, the 25-34 demographic rose from 5% in 2013 to 38% and growing today! Now, 50% of new Snapchat users are in the 25-34 range. With only 2% of baby boomers using the platform, this is currently a great marketing tool for reaching younger demographics. Snapchat campaigns are really only successful with Millennials, since they make up 95% of all Snapchat users. So, only use Snapchat for targeting this demographic. Eventually, other demographics may begin to snap, so it’s wise to get your feet wet now.

Geofilters are graphic overlays that a user can choose to use on their snaps before sending to friends or posting to their story. This is a fantastic opportunity to get brand awareness by utilizing this feature! For a relatively low cost, your organization can sponsor its own Geofilter; either temporarily for a few hours or days or even a whole year. Snapchat offers a template to design the overlays in Photoshop. If you lack Photoshop skills, there is a simple tool directly on their website that even the design-challenged can use with ease. Geofilters are an easy and inexpensive way to get brand awareness in younger markets.

Three Ways to use Geofilters:

1. If you have brick and mortar business, like a spa or a restaurant, then an annual geofilter suits your business. The cost will run you about $400 a year depending on how large your space is. Don’t forget to encourage your customers to snap and use your filter!

2. Temporary Geofilters are great for events. If your company is hosting party, creating a geofilter and encouraging guests to save their snaps with the filter and post it on other platforms like Facebook and Instagram will create brand awareness post-mortem. It will help mark memories with your event, so people remember where their photo was taken. Temporary geofilters start at only $5, and prices vary based on the size of your space and the duration of flight.

3. Temporary Geofilters can also steal an audience! If you know of an event that your younger target market will attend, why not fly a geofilter there? For example, if your organization is hosting a punk a rock party, fly a geofilter at the nearby Blink 182 show a couple of weeks prior to advertise to like-minded individuals.

To have a successful geofilter campaign, location is everything! If you are doing a temporary flight, make sure you pick a location that has Snapchat users. For example, a trendy upscale restaurant frequented by Baby Boomers and Gen Xers will not be successful – that demographic is better reached with Facebook. However, that fun club frequented by 20 and 30 somethings may be a place you can make a lot of impressions. Snapchat has plenty of marketing potential with Millennials, and now is the time to be an early adapter and get ahead with one of the edgiest marketing tools!
